It has been turning over in my mind recently as I prepare for show number 7, Women in the 21st Century, that there is no reason why I should not start writing the book right in front of you right now, to stimulate other contributors to the show in writing about their involvements in a just and sustainable future, and to help in networking them all, although many of them are quite aware of each other, but more than this to provide a crucible of unification.
As I have said elsewhere and intimated in my on-air introductions, Vision Shack was inspired by contemplating all the good things, intelligent, informed, latest generation things that are being pioneered by women and men of vision all over the world as well as locally.
Brighton is, and has been since the days of the "unfortunate" Prince Regent who would be King and never really was, a place that has harboured the unusual, the creative, the culturally offset and the bohemian. It is known now as one of the centres of Music in the UK, increasingly so as time goes by, and of course as one of the 'gay capitals' of Britain. I believe that Brighton Pride is the only remaining free inclusive parade and party in the park festivals remaining. Some of us are thinking it could become ever more inclusive, which is I believe the conscious or unconscious intention when the 'G' word was dropped from its title. The City of Brighton and Hove is probably one of the few communities where the community at large has long been involved in the Pride festival, and where on World Aids day it is not just us on the other team who wear red ribbons - one of the first things I noticed when I moved here.
That is why it is the perfect theatre of appearance for so much that is sustainable, really new, progressive, future-prone and not hidebound in the old ways.
So here we go. It also occurred to me that the book could be a collaboration not just by guests, friends who are doing something to help re-birth the future, or give it embodiment, substance, form, but those who have not appeared, whether eminent in any field or just ordinary people doing their bit by believing in or living the future now.
So over the coming weeks, I will begin to write blogs to this end, chapters of the book on all the relevant subjects. It is likely to begin with program one, Food Sovereignty, Participatory Development as opposed to aid, the whole story about mass-agriculture versus responsible smallholder or independent natural farming, and the events being planned by World family to inform Civil Society about all the issues and the propositions, the good news as well as the scary inducements to action, and the great work being done by Farmers' Groups and Fora and many NGO's.
Many of the subjects are inter-connected and I hope that if the collaborative project works well we will see a web or network of Humanity working towards A World Waiting to Be Born as it was put by M.Scott-Peck in his book on Civility.
